Gravitational instabilities in helicity-1 waves propagating through matter in equilibrium
نویسندگان
چکیده
It is shown that the interaction of helicity-1 waves of gravity and matter in a thin slab configuration produces new types of instabilities. Indeed, a spin2 helicity-1 mode interacts strongly with the shear motion of matter. This mode is unstable above a critical wavelength, λc = √ πc2/2Gρ. This should be compared with Jeans wavelength, λJ = √ πcs/Gρ, where cs is the sound speed. The two instabilities are of course different. For the case analyzed, a plane parallel configuration, Jeans instability appears through a density wave perturbation, the material collapsing into a set of plane-parallel slabs. On the other hand, the helicity-1 wave instability induces a transverse motion in the fluid that tends to shear in the material along the node of the perturbation. Helicity-Rotation-Gravity Coupling for Gravitational Waves
The consequences of spin-rotation-gravity coupling are worked out for linear gravitational waves. The coupling of helicity of the wave with the rotation of a gravitational-wave antenna is investigated and the resulting modifications in the Doppler effect and aberration are pointed out for incident high-frequency gravitational radiation. Extending these results to the case of a gravitomagnetic f...
متن کاملGravitational Waves from Phase-transition Induced Collapse of Neutron Stars
We study the gravitational radiation from gravitational collapses of rapidly rotating neutron stars induced by a phase-transition from normal nuclear matter to a mixed phase of quark and nuclear matter in the core of the stars. The study is based on self-consistent three dimensional hydrodynamic simulations with Newtonian gravity and a high resolution shock capturing scheme, and the quadrupole ...

Rayleigh-Bénard and Bénard-Marangoni instabilities have been studied for roughly a century and have served as prototypes for the transition to temporal chaos as well as spatiotemporal chaos of an initially stationary pattern. Using the Marangoni effect [1,2] with an horizontal temperature gradient to drive the system out of equilibrium, one can observe propagating waves instabilities: hydrother...
متن کاملEffects of shear and bulk viscosity on head-on collision of localized waves in high density compact stars
Head on collision of localized waves in cold and dense hadronic matter with and without shear and bulk viscosities is investigated. Non-relativistic dynamics of propagating waves is studied using the hydrodynamics description of the system and suitable equation of state. It will be shown that the localized waves are described by solutions of the Burgers equation. Simulations show that the propa...

In this paper, stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) and electron heating in laser plasma propagating along the plasma fusion is investigated by particle-in cell simulation. Applying an external magnetic field to plasma, production of whistler waves and electron heating associated with whistler waves in the direction perpendicular to external magnetic field was observed in this simulation. The pla...
